All elevated Loop “L” stations will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, the Chicago Transit Authority announced.

The disruption, which the CTA said will accommodate construction, will be in addition to the ongoing service disruptions on the Green and Pink lines. It also mirrors a similar closure at the same time last year.

From the start of service Saturday through early Monday, the Brown Line will terminate at Merchandise Mart and not serve the Loop. Orange Line service will similarly end at Roosevelt.

Pink Line trains will continue to terminate and meet the Blue Line at Racine.

Green Line trains from the South Side will terminate at Roosevelt, while service from the West Side will continue to end at Clinton.

The underground Blue and Red lines will run as usual.

Riders from the South and Southwest sides can transfer to the Red Line at Roosevelt. Brown Line riders can transfer to the Red Line at Fullerton, or they can take a bus shuttle that will run from Merchandise Mart to downtown Blue and Red line stations.

Another shuttle will run between the Roosevelt and Clinton stations.

The construction at Tower 18, the junction of “L” tracks at Lake and Wells streets, will pick up from where the CTA left off in 2025. Then, the CTA repaired two quadrants of the junction, the agency said.

Now, the CTA will repair the other two quadrants at Lake and Wells, the busiest stretch in the “L” system and one of the busiest rail junctions in the U.S. Such major repair work must occur there every decade, the CTA said.

The timing of the closure takes advantage of the Lake Street Bridge replacement project, which has disrupted the Green and Pink lines since Oct. 13.

All Loop service, including Green and Pink line trains, will return to normal at the start of service on Monday at 4 a.m.
