Former Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould resigned Wednesday as football coach at St. Viator after two seasons.

St. Viator finished 2-7 this season and missed the playoffs. In his two seasons as the Lions coach, they went 3-15.

Gould told the St. Viator administration he decided to resign to spend more time with his family. He also said he would stay involved at the school to support his senior student-athletes with their college recruiting, according to a school news release.

“We are grateful to Coach Gould for his leadership, dedication and commitment to our student-athletes,” school President Ryan Aiello said in the news release. “We appreciate his contributions to Saint Viator football, respect his decision to prioritize his family and wish him all the best.”

St. Viator moved this season into the Chicago Catholic League Red Division, the lowest of the six CCL divisions. Gould’s team had some success there, going 2-1 in division play with wins over Marian Catholic and a lopsided victory last week over winless De La Salle. But the Lions lost all six games outside the division.

Gould came onto the high school head coaching scene with lots of fanfare after being a volunteer coach at Fremd in 2023.

The former Bears and San Francisco 49ers kicker was introduced as the new coach at Rolling Meadows

for the 2024 season at a splashy news conference with dozens of media outlets present.

Gould led the Mustangs to a 5-4 record that year and back into the IHSA playoffs for the first time in three seasons. Soon after Rolling Meadows lost its playoff opener to St. Charles North 49-14, Gould resigned. He then was announced as St. Viator’s coach.

St. Viator athletic director Nick Sobieszczyk said the search for a new coach is underway.

“Our commitment to Saint Viator football extends beyond any one coach,” Sobieszczyk said in the release. “We are investing in the future of this program, and our student-athletes will remain our top priority. We are focused on finding the right leader to guide the next chapter of Saint Viator football.”
