Major construction work will snarl Green and Pink Line commutes downtown for nearly two weeks starting Tuesday, according to the CTA and the Chicago Department of Transportation.

Green and Pink Line trains operate on the upper level of the 110-year-old Lake Street Bridge, which CDOT is doing major work on.

Between 4 a.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. on Oct. 26, Green Line trains will not run between the Clinton and Clark/Lake stations. Shuttle buses will connect riders between the two stations, which are about a 12-minute walk apart. Green Line trains will travel around the Loop on the Orange Line’s route.

Pink Line trains won’t operate around the Loop. Trains will make all stops between 54th/Cermak and Polk before connecting with the CTA’s Racine station, where riders can transfer to the Blue Line to get downtown. The CTA recommends riders needing to get to or from the Ashland, Morgan or Clinton stations use the 9 or X9 Ashland bus instead.

More details about service impacts are available on the CTA’s website. Brown and Orange Line service will also be affected during the last weekend of work, CDOT’s project website said.

Another 12-day Green and Pink Line outage is expected in spring 2027, according to the city.
