This seat opened when Democratic Commissioner Kevin Morrison launched an unsuccessful primary run for Congress. For eight years, Ted Mason has served as his chief of staff, and now he’s gunning for the open seat. Mason promises to use his knowledge of the county’s workings to find contracts and government expenditures that could be cut before essential services go by the boards. He also wants to land more state and federal grants. “We can pursue efficiency without abandoning the services our residents rely on,” he tells us.

Daniel Lee, a Hoffman Estates plan commissioner, won the Republican primary against the youthful Gabriella Hoxie, who we endorsed. If elected, Lee reportedly has pledged to step down from his plan commission role and give up a consulting business to serve full-time on the County Board. He bills himself as “unapologetically conservative.” We thought Hoxie’s willingness to work across the aisle would have made her more effective in representing District 15 on a board full of Democrats.

Ted Mason is endorsed.
