This race is a mismatch. At age 79, incumbent Democrat John P. Daley brings an encyclopedic knowledge of the county’s money issues to his important role as chair of the board’s finance committee. He has pushed for state and federal grant funding, helped to prop up the county’s credit rating and championed supplemental pension payments. His Republican opponent, firefighter Charles Spizzirri, would bring nothing comparable to the office. And he shows a lack of judgment by picturing himself on a campaign website wearing his uniform, which should be reserved for official, non-partisan business.

John P. Daley is endorsed.
