A familiar name in local Republican politics is aiming to get her old seat back, and we are pleased to see her in the mix. Former Commissioner Elizabeth “Liz” Doody Gorman is stepping in after incumbent Sean Morrison (the only Republican on the board) decided to step aside. The feisty Gorman has a long history of service to District 17, including a history of opposing tax hikes. “I support a property tax freeze and shared services among government agencies to eliminate duplication and reduce costs,” she told us. “Savings should go to property-tax relief, not more spending.” Yes!

Democrat Elyse Hoffenberg, an attorney who serves as clerk in Lyons Township, had the potential to be a strong candidate, given her sensible, detailed ideas for improving county operations. Unfortunately, her candidacy has been overshadowed by the so-called “kiss-cam” scandal. Security camera footage from her office captured a two-second kiss between Hoffenberg and Bridgeview Mayor Steve Landek. She claimed it was nonromantic but still used her official position to block her election opponent’s initial FOIA request to release the footage, a public record.

Elizabeth “Liz” Doody Gorman is endorsed.
