A shooting Wednesday at Oakbrook Center mall in Oak Brook left a man dead and a woman injured, authorities said.
The shooting happened around noon in a parking lot near the L.L. Bean store, Oak Brook police Chief Brian Strockis said.
Strockis said there was an altercation between five people who were in two vehicles.
The man was dead when police arrived. The woman was hospitalized, but information on her condition was not immediately available.
After the shooting, the other three people drove off, Strockis said.

They were stopped by police in nearby Oakbrook Terrace and were in custody and being questioned about the shooting, Strockis said.
Strockis said he didn’t have information about a motive. He declined to give the ages, sexes and hometowns of the people involved. The victim was not named, as police were still notifying his relatives.
He said automated license plate reading cameras helped investigators quickly track down the other three people.
Strockis said more information will be given at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
It is the second time in recent years there has been a shooting at the mall.
In December 2021, the mall was locked down after a shooting. In that case, three men argued while in line at a pretzel shop. The argument was about comments made on social media. Five people were shot, and a woman broke an ankle while trying to escape.
