Police said the girl was in a car with family on the 3000 block of South State Street when they got into an argument with people in a second car, a white SUV, just after 9:45 p.m.
A man in the second car threatened to shoot at the car, the girl and her family were in, police said, and fired twice before he fled. The girl was shot in the thigh and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was in fair condition Tuesday night, according to officials.
Police said Wednesday morning no one was in custody regarding the shooting and that Belmont Area detectives were investigating.
