A Hobart man is facing charges after two boys said he approached them on Sept. 25 and told them to get in his vehicle, charges allege.

They ran and went to find a nearby police officer.

David Medina, 66, is charged with eight felonies, including attempted kidnapping, attempted criminal confinement and criminal confinement.

He is in custody, held on a $10,000 cash bond.

His next court appearance is Oct. 29.

The boys, aged 12 and 13, told the officer they were near 3rd and Main Streets when the man asked if “they wanted money” or an alcoholic drink, according to the affidavit.

When he opened his door and told them to get in, they ran toward the police department. They gave the police his license plate number.

That evening, an officer pulled Medina over in a grey Jeep in a traffic stop.

Officers wrote Medina admitted he saw the boys, but denied offering them drinks or a ride. He smelled like alcohol, the affidavit alleged.

He admitted he had just been drinking whiskey and was going to a bar, documents state. A breathalyzer registered .201, records show.

Police later interviewed the two boys.

Hobart Police said on Facebook that Medina was not a registered sex offender.
