State Rep. Jed Davis, 48, is the Republican incumbent in this district, which stretches from exurban Will County through parts of Kendall and Grundy counties to the south. Davis, a foster parent, was appointed in 2023 to the bipartisan Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Working Group, and is focused on family welfare issues and ideas to improve DCFS, a worthy and unsung focus. We appreciate his desire to strengthen the Legislative Inspector General, in part by adding citizen representation to the legislative ethics commission. “Legislators should not have exclusive control over the body overseeing investigations of legislators,” he told us. We also find it comforting to hear his resolve in holding the line on spending and tax hikes.

Caroline McCree, the Democrat, is running an enthusiastic campaign while juggling work and running a household as a single mom, no small feat. We haven’t heard much from her, but she has carved out an anti-data center lane for herself. Meanwhile, her position on taxation seems fairly muddled and not yet fully formed.

Jed Davis is endorsed.
