A 35-year-old woman was killed late Sunday night after a wrong-way driver caused a chain-reaction crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said.
Officers arrived at the 4000 block of DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Oakwood Boulevard around 11:20 p.m. after a black SUV driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes crashed into a white sedan. The impact sent the sedan crashing into a black coupe.
The woman driving the white sedan was taken to Northwestern Hospital with serious injuries and later died, police said. The driver of the black coupe was not injured.
Police took the SUV driver, who was also uninjured, into custody, according to CPD.

The crash briefly disrupted northbound traffic in the area, the city said. All lanes reopened by 8:30 a.m.
CPD’s Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
