A 47-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were fatally wounded Thursday night in a domestic-related shooting in the Austin neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 10:45 p.m., a witness heard gunshots coming from a basement in the 800 block of North Parkside Avenue and called 911. A preliminary investigation revealed a known suspect opened fire inside an apartment wounding two victims, police said.

A woman suffered a wound to the chest, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. A man was shot multiple times to his body was taken to the same hospital where he also was pronounced dead.

Two firearms were found at the scene, police said. The gunman was arrested and charges are pending, police said.
