Chicago police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 1-year-old girl in the West Ridge neighborhood.

The child was found unresponsive with visible injuries on her lower body at a home in the 2600 West Rosemont Avenue around 11:40 a.m., according to Chicago police.

Following the discovery, she was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she was later pronounced dead. The child was identified as Maombi Joyeuse, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services could provide no information, but said the agency would work with police to investigate following the autopsy.
