Three teenage boys suspected in an armed carjacking in Illinois were arrested after fleeing from police in Indiana, police said.

Just after 11 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department learned Chicago police were looking for a stolen, black Chevy Suburban, which the owner had been tracking with GPS, according to a release from the sheriff’s department.

A Lake County police officer located the vehicle at 50th and Massachusetts Street in Gary. When the officer activated his lights and sirens, the vehicle reportedly fled, traveling north on Broadway. The driver proceeded, swerving recklessly and traveling at speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour, per the release, eventually entering westbound Interstate 80 and exiting at Burr Street.

The driver reportedly continued to flee police through Gary. In the 4900 block of West 7th Avenue, three subjects exited the SUV while it was still moving and entered a home there, according to the release.

Police officers set up a perimeter around the house and two male subjects exited onto the porch area and were taken into custody. A third male subject was located inside the home and was also placed into custody, police said.

Officers were notified that the suspect vehicle reportedly struck another vehicle while fleeing near 7th Avenue and Clark Road, police said. The victim in that crash was transported to an area hospital and treated for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects, ages 15, 16 and 17, were transported to the Lake County Juvenile Center, police said.

No further information is being released.

“I’d like to thank all of the law enforcement officers who were involved in this case for their cooperation and swift action in bringing these suspects into custody and preventing further danger on our roads,” Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said in the release.
