A Waukegan-area man has been charged in a 2025 hit-and-run accident in which a motorcyclist was killed, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Eduardo Fajardo Jr., 21, was taken into custody early Friday morning at his residence in the 26700 block of Boulevard View.

Police allege that Fajardo was driving a 2017 pickup truck that hit and killed Adrian Rogel-Villanueva, 19, of Waukegan.

Rogel-Villanueva’s motorcycle was struck at about 2:34 a.m. on July 27, 2025, near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Salmon Avenue near Beach Park. Deputies responding to the crash found him and his motorcycle in a field by the intersection.

Police tied evidence at the scene to a dark-colored pickup truck that was seen on cameras speeding toward the intersection. Fajardo, police said, was at a party near the crash site and was seen driving away at a high rate of speed in a dark red GMC Sierra pickup.

In the days after the crash, Fajardo allegedly cancelled the insurance policy on the truck. Police said they have not located the pickup and believe it has been destroyed.

Fajardo has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death and obstructing justice.

“This case is a testament to the dedication and persistence of our detectives and crash investigators,” Sheriff John Idleburg said. “While this investigation took time, they never stopped working to identify the vehicle involved, determine what happened that night, and hold the person responsible accountable.”
