ELGIN LOOKING FOR LOCAL DONATION OF LARGE CHRISTMAS TREE

Elgin is seeking the donation of a large tree to be illuminated and displayed downtown during the Christmas holiday season.

The tree should be in good health, 30 to 40 feet tall, less than 30 miles from Elgin, and can be a Norway spruce, Colorado blue spruce, fir or evergreen, according to a news release. Pine trees will not be considered.

Anyone who submits their tree for consideration should include information on the story behind the tree and why it should be chosen and at least four photos showing its height, circumference and health. The selected tree will be removed by a city crew and its stump ground down, the release said.

The selected tree will be decorated and placed along DuPage Court, where it will be officially lighted in a ceremony Saturday, Nov. 28, and remain up through Monday, Jan. 11.

Submissions should be emailed to [email protected] by Sept. 28.
