U-46 HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND SHOWCASE ON WEDNESDAY

School District U-46 will host a high school marching band showcase at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Elgin High School’s Memorial Field, 1200 Maroon Drive.

The free event will begin with the playing of the national anthem, followed by 15-minute performances from the district’s bands, according to a news release. The performance order will be Streamwood, Elgin, Larkin, Bartlett, South Elgin and a combined band number to end the evening.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP HOLDING SHRED EVENT, FOOD DRIVE

Hanover Township will host a shred event and food donation drive from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the William Tiknis Campus, 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

Only paper materials will be accepted, according to a news release. Small paper clips and staples do not need to be removed. Township residents are limited to two bags or boxes of paper to shred. The document collection may end early if trucks fill before 11 a.m.

SOUTH ELGIN FIRE DISTRICT OPEN HOUSE SET FOR SATURDAY

The South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Fire Station 21, 1090 N. Spring St., South Elgin.

According to a social media post, the free event will feature a helicopter landing at 10:30 a.m. and taking off at 11:45 a.m., a vehicle demonstration at noon, a touch-a-truck area, refreshments, games and giveaways.

ELGIN POLICE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS WALK PLANNED

The Elgin Police Department will host its fourth annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at police headquarters, 151 Douglas Ave.

In addition to a 1-mile walk, the event will feature community resources; a survivor-to-thriver time from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. honoring strength and recovery; ticket giveaways to Chicago Stars women’s soccer games; and refreshments, according to a social media post.

Registration is not required. Participants are encouraged to wear purple.

Elgin police are also selling Domestic Violence Awareness Month gear, including T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts, at stores.inksoft.com/epddv/shop/home.

FALL FEST TO BE HELD AT IZAAK WALTON YOUTH CENTER

Hanover Township Department of Youth & Family Services will host a Fall Family Fun Fest from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Izaak Walton Youth Center & Reserve, 899 Jay St., Elgin.

The free event will feature games, a bounce house, music, free snacks and crafts, according to a news release. Attendees are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes to take part in a costume contest raffle. No registration is required.

“Have a donut and some cider, complete a fall craft and take a family snapshot at our fall themed photo display,” Youth & Family Services Director Erin Brumfield Grima said in the release.
