In the predawn hours of Tuesday, a vehicle struck a barrier and veered into the Little Calumet River in the 13000 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Riverdale neighborhood. Occupants included a 24-year-old male driver, a 24-year-old male passenger and three female passengers, 22, 26 and 27.
The driver and the 22- and 27-year-old female passengers made it to land, while the 24-year-old male passenger was rescued by the Chicago police marine unit. The man rescued, identified as Trumayne Sanders, was taken to UChicago Medicine, where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The third female passenger had not been found after the accident and was still missing as of Wednesday morning, police said.
However, early Wednesday evening, police stated that a 26-year-old woman’s body had been pulled from the river in the 13000 block of South Indiana earlier in the day, just before 11 a.m. The woman was transported to Roseland Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was identified late Wednesday as Ralphealle Howard, according to the medical examiner’s office.
