Police have launched a homicide investigation after a person was pushed off a moving Red Line Train on the city’s South Side Monday afternoon.

Authorities initially reported Monday that a male of unknown age jumped from a moving CTA train near the first block of West 69th Street in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood at around 2:30 p.m. that afternoon. The passenger, police had said, landed on the third rail and was ultimately struck by an oncoming train. He was pronounced dead on scene. According to a source with knowledge of the investigation, the man’s feet were severed at the ankles.

Video footage from inside the train showed a fight between the dead man and alleged aggressors, the source said. Police said in a statement Tuesday that three unknown suspects pushed the victim from the moving train during an altercation.

Wentworth Area Detectives are now conducting a homicide investigation, police said.
