HOLLYWOOD COSTUME EXHIBIT RETURNS TO LIBRARY

“Glitz, Glam & Gorgeous: Hollywood Costumes,” an exhibit featuring more than 20 costumes worn by stars like Marilyn Monroe, Angela Lansbury and Ginger Rogers, has returned to the Gail Borden Public Library in downtown Elgin.

On display through Nov. 22, the exhibit also will include a program on the life of Marilyn Monroe by historical presenter and actress Michelle Gibbons from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and a piano performance related to the exhibit from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, the library’s website said.

ELGIN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TICKETS NOW ON SALE

Single-show tickets for the Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s 77th season are on sale for concerts taking place at The Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin.

The season gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, with “Four Dance Episodes,” featuring pieces from Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo,” Stravinsky’s “Symphony in Three Movements” and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Drew Petersen will be the guest pianist.

Tickets start at $20 and are available online at www.elginsymphony.org, by phone at 847-888-4000 and at the ESO office, 20 DuPage Court, Elgin.

KANE COUNTY’S GREAT ORB HUNT STARTS SEPT. 10

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County and Fine Line Creative Arts Center will host the Great Orb Hunt 2026 from Thursday, Sept. 10, to Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Participants can find and keep handcrafted glass and ceramic orbs created by Fine Line Creative Arts Center artists hidden at Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles; Burnidge Forest Preserve, 38W235 Big Timber Road, Elgin; and the Prairie Path at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 37W570 Bolcum Road, St. Charles.

Staff will hide 150 orbs in small batches throughout the event, placing them 1 to 5 feet off designated trails. Social media posts will announce when an orb has been found and registered.

NATIVE PLANT SALE AT ELGIN PUBLIC MUSEUM SATURDAY

A free fall native plant sale will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, on the grounds of the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park, Elgin.

Chris Flaherty of Green Guerrilla will be on hand to provide gardening advice and recommendations on plant selection, according to a social media post for the sale.

LOVE ON THE LAWN/BORICUA FEST SET FOR SATURDAY

Love on the Lawn and Boricuas Unidos de Elgin have partnered to include Boricua Fest in the fifth annual Love on the Lawn celebration being held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in Festival Park in downtown Elgin.

The Boricua Fest had been scheduled for Aug. 1 but was canceled due to bad weather. Its events will now take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include Puerto Rican music, dance, cultural activities, food and merchandise vendors, a news release said.

Love on the Lawn will feature more than 15 performers and a variety of vendors. Acts include Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Mýa, American Idol Top 10 finalist Philmon Lee, NúBorn & NúLyf and a Chicago DJ showcase.

Elgin recently proclaimed Sept. 5 as Love on the Lawn Day in recognition of the event’s community impact.
