GRANT TO HELP SENIORS BECOME HEALTH WORKERS

HAP Foundation has been awarded a $712,000 federal grant to extend its AmeriCorps Senior Workforce Development Program to DuPage, Will and Lake counties over the next three years.

The program will offer seniors 55 and older a chance to become community health workers, a news release said.

Starting in September, there will be two opportunities offered.

The workforce reentry track is designed to help those wanting to return to the workforce as community health workers and receive state certification when it is finalized later this year.

Under the second option, the volunteer advancement track, participants can become community health volunteers.

All participants will receive 50 hours of orientation and training, while those in the workforce reentry track will receive an additional 60 hours of training and 80 hours of on-the-job training, the release said. Compensation will be $625 for completing the volunteer advancement track and $2,250 for the workforce reentry track.
