A 54-year-old man was fatally wounded overnight in a triple shooting in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago police said.

About 3 a.m. Thursday, two men and a woman were inside a white sedan heading south in the 7100 block of South Champlain Avenue when a white SUV pulled alongside them and someone opened fire toward the victims, striking them, police said.

The SUV fled the scene after the shooting.

One of the men, 54, suffered gunshot wounds to his head and back, and was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead. A second man, 45, was shot to the leg, and was taken to the same hospital in good condition. A 48-year-old woman suffered a chest wound and also was taken to the same hospital where she was listed in good condition, police said.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
