SHERMAN ER HONORED WITH LANTERN AWARD

The Advocate Sherman Hospital Emergency Department in Elgin is one of eight in Illinois and 126 across the United States presented with 2026 Lantern Awards from the Emergency Nurses Association.

“The Lantern recognizes something incredibly special,” Dustin Bass, ENA president, said in a news release. “It isn’t an award for an individual or an entire hospital — it’s a recognition earned by an emergency department and the team that powers it every day.”

To be considered for the award, emergency departments submit applications that measure various aspects of how they operate and the professional development they provide. Those applications are scored by a committee, according to the release.

In addition to Advocate Sherman, other Illinois emergency departments to receive the award are Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville; Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington; Ascension Saint Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates; Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital Emergency Department in Winfield; Northwestern Medicine Grayslake Freestanding Emergency Department in Grayslake; Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital in Huntley; and Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital Emergency Department in DeKalb.

ELGIN RESIDENT PRIORITY SURVEY NOW AVAILABLE

An online survey open to all Elgin residents as well as a mail survey being sent to residents randomly is being conducted to obtain feedback on city services and community priorities.

The online survey is offered in English and Spanish and takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete, a news release said. It asks about the quality and importance of various services, quality of life in the city and perceptions of Elgin.

In partnership with research firm ETC Institute, the city also mailed surveys to a random sample of at least 500 households across Elgin. ETC will monitor responses to ensure the sample reflects the community’s demographics, the release said.

Responses will remain confidential. The results will be presented at an Elgin City Council meeting in the fall and will be posted to the city’s website.

To take the survey, go to ElginSurvey.org.
