NAPERVILLE STUDENT AWARDED ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP

Naperville resident Raney Michel is one of two incoming freshmen to be awarded a full four-year tuition scholarship to attend at Morgan Park Academy in Chicago.

The two winners were the inaugural recipients of the school’s Academic Excellence Scholarship, a merit-based award that recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership, character and community involvement, a news release said.

Raney was selected through a competitive admissions and scholarship process that included an academic review, recommendations, interviews and scholarship testing, the release said.

The Academic Excellence Scholarship is part of Morgan Park Academy’s expanded scholarship program, which helps attract exceptional students from across the Chicago region, the release said.

LONG TABLE DINNER TO BENEFIT WEST SUBURBAN PANTRY

Guests are asked to dress in white as they dine under the stars at the West Suburban Community Pantry’s 7th annual Long Table Dinner on Water Street, set for 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, outside Hotel Indigo in downtown Naperville.

The annual event features a six-course gourmet meal and wine pairings prepared by Water Street restaurant chefs. The Pete Ellman jazz band will perform, a news release said.

Proceeds support the West Suburban Community Pantry, which serves 1,000 families each week.

Tickets cost $200 each and tables of eight are $1,600. A vegetarian menu is available.

DUPAGE FOREST PRESERVE PHOTO CONTEST UNDERWAY

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is holding an “Unplug to Recharge” photo contest through Sept. 7 to encourage residents to explore the forest preserves.

Entries will be accepted for a chance to win prizes in three categories: wildlife and plants, people and recreation, and landscapes and places.

Photos must be taken at a DuPage County forest preserve, a news release said. One winner per category will be selected by district employees for a chance to win prizes valued at about $150, the release said.

Online voters also will select their favorite photograph, the winner of which will receive a camera prize package valued at $85.

The contest also includes random drawings for Kodak disposable cameras and forest preserve district gift cards that can be redeemed for programs, permits, equipment rentals or merchandise, the release said.
