KNOCH KNOLLS CENTER CLOSING FOR LOT MAINTENANCE

Knoch Knolls Nature Center will be closed from Monday, Aug. 10, through Friday, Aug. 21, for parking lot maintenance, according to the Naperville Park District said.

Restrooms that are accessible from the exterior of the center at 320 Knoch Knolls Road will remain open.

Anyone wanting to walk the DuPage River trail should park and access it at the DuPage River Sports Complex, 2807 S. Washington St., a news release said.

FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT SELLING TREES, SHRUBS

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is offering 48 species of native trees and shrubs as part of its annual fall sale.

An online catalog is available at www.dupageforest.org. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability, a news release said.

Shoppers can pick up their orders from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Friday, Sept. 11, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. James Farm, near Winfield and Butterfield roads in Warrenville.

No additional plant sales will take place at the farm on those days, the release said.

Available plants were grown locally from seeds originating within 100 miles of DuPage County and tolerate Illinois weather. Planting in the fall gives trees and shrubs an extra growing season before the stress of summer, the release said.

Sale proceeds support forest preserve district educational programs.

The opening of the paddleboat and kayak rentals Friday at the quarry near the Riverwalk in downtown Naperville marks the start of the 2018 summer season of activities offered around the city.
