
RUSTY RODEO CRAYFISH ROUNDUP SET FOR AUG. 15
The eighth annual Rusty Rodeo crayfish roundup will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 15, along the Fox River in Mount St. Mary’s Park, 79 Prairie St., St. Charles, and North Aurora Island Park, 4 E. State St., North Aurora.
Organized by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, St. Charles Park District, Fox Valley Park District and Friends of the Fox River, the event is way to remove the invasive species from the waterway, a news release said.
Prizes will be given to those who collect the largest and smallest rusty crayfish, and to the person who collects the most. Participants should bring nets and wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get muddy, the release said.

‘AS YOU LIKE IT’ BEING STAGED AT LORDS, WING PARKS
Theater troupe Goodly Creatures will present free performances of William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at the east picnic shelter at Lords Park, 325 Hiawatha Drive, Elgin, and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Wing Park Bandshell, 1010 Wing St., Elgin.
The troupe’s website describes the play as “a romantic comedy about clashing cultures, bids for power, hidden identities, friendship, loyalty and love.”
In case of rain, a performance will be presented 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Wing Park Bandshell.

U-46 BOARD SIGNS DEAL TO BUY NEW SCHOOL BUSES
The District U-46 School Board has approved a $14.4 million contract with Midwest Transit Equipment to buy 86 school buses.
Ten of the buses will seat 12, with five spots for securing wheelchairs; two buses will seat 36, with five spots for wheelchairs; 31 buses will seat 47; and 43 buses will seat 77 passengers.

Director of Transportation Marcy Murphy told the board in July that all seats on all the new buses will have lap-and-shoulder seatbelts in advance of a state law that goes into effect July 1, 2031.
BARTLETT FIREFIGHTERS PLAN WEEKEND MUSIC FEST
Bartlett firefighters will host the Smoke & Irons Music Fest from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Apple Orchard Park, 620 W. Stearns Road, Bartlett.
Money raised from the event will support Ignite the Courage, a nonprofit set up by Bartlett firefighters to help local people facing financial hardship due to catastrophic events or medical issues, according to a news release.
Acts performing include Rob Leines, Ben Chapman, Sam Morrow, Andy Thomas, The Filthy Heathens and The Band Feel.
A bags tournament will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday. Registration is $50 per team, with a $300 cash prize awarded to first place. Food trucks will be onsite.
Admission is $10 at the gate for ages 21 and older, and free for anyone under 21.
