VEGGIEFEST RETURNS FOR TWO-DAY EVENT

VeggieFest Chicago, featuring international food and wellness experts, will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 8 and 9, at Danada South Park, 2701 Navistar Circle, Lisle.

The event includes an international food court featuring vegetarian and vegan cuisine, more than 75 vendors showcasing health and wellness products and services, and live cooking demonstrations, organizers said.

The food court will have an array of options, including meals for those with gluten-free diets. Selections such as Hawaiian-style acai bowls, Caribbean veggie chicken and fried rice, vegan pork and beef tacos, Buddha bowls and more will be featured. Among the dessert options are smoothies, cheesecakes, Dubai chocolate, fresh fruits and Italian ice cream.

Food tickets are $1 each, with most dishes ranging between $3 and $15. Admission and parking are free.

Children’s activities include games, crafts and educational activities, live music and meditation and yoga sessions, organizers said.

Keynote speaker Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj will hold two talks on meditation. Other presenters will speak on plant-based diets, hormones and nutrition, the role of protein in lowering cholesterol and supporting weight loss, and using nutrition to prevent and reverse heart disease, among other topics.

The 16th annual event is expected to attract more than 40,000 guests from across the Midwest and beyond, organizers said.

FORT HILL CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY

Fort Hill Activity Center’s 10th anniversary will be celebrated with free fitness classes, activities, refreshments and giveaways from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 22.

A membership to the center at 20 Fort Hill Drive is not required to attend the event, a Naperville Park District news release said.

The indoor track, playground, gymnastics room and a sensory room by the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association will be open for free use. Free fitness classes include Zumba at 9 a.m., Body Jam at 10:05 a.m. and Yoga at 10:45 a.m.

The center is also offering new fitness memberships for no enrollment fees from Aug. 22 to 31.
