A 5-year-old boy was critically wounded overnight in a drive-by shooting on the Near West Side in the Little Italy/UIC neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m., a black SUV pulled alongside a large group in the 1000 block of West 14th Place, and someone inside opened fire toward the group.
A 5-year-old boy suffered a wound to the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. A 39-year-old man was shot to the buttocks and was taken to the same hospital and listed in good condition, police said.
The SUV fled south on Morgan Street after the shooting, police said.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
