Prosecutors won’t pursue criminal charges against a suspect who was taken into custody following the deadly North Side shooting over the weekend that forced the closure of a Lincoln Park bar, officials confirmed.

“After thorough review, the CCSAO determined the available evidence is insufficient to support the filing of criminal charges,” a Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokesperson wrote in a statement Wednesday.

Around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, two men got into an argument with a 30-year-old man in the 2200 block of North Lincoln Avenue, before they took out handguns and shot him multiple times in his head and body.

The man, identified as Malik McCorkle, of Englewood, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Ald. Timmy Knudsen, 43rd, the shooting followed a fight at The Dime, located at 2263 N. Lincoln Ave. Interim Chicago police Superintendent Fred Waller on Tuesday ordered the closure of the bar.

Lincoln Park bar ordered closed after fatal weekend shooting

The two alleged shooters, according to a police report obtained by the Tribune, had first fled the area, but one man returned, saying he’d played a role in the shooting and handed over a gun. Near North District (18th) police arrested the man and found that he had a concealed carry license, the report stated. Officers recovered one other gun from the crime scene.

Police on Wednesday afternoon said the investigation is ongoing but declined to share any further details.
