Robert Snyder is the new principal at Munster High School, and his predecessor Morgan Nolan will be shifting to a central office role in operations.

The School Town of Munster announced the changes, effective Wednesday, last week.

A longtime Munster educator, Snyder has served as a school administrator at Munster High School since 2009 and has spent the past 17 years as both a dean of students and assistant principal.

Most recently, Snyder oversaw the guidance department, state reporting, student assessments, master scheduling, teacher evaluations and Munster High School’s dual credit programming.

Under his leadership, the dual credit program awarded 62,606 college credits between 2018 and 2025, resulting in an estimated $18.7 million in tuition savings for Munster families. In recognition of these efforts, he was awarded an honorary degree from Ivy Tech Community College in 2023.

Snyder earned bachelor’s degrees in English and education, along with a minor in theology, from Valparaiso University in 2003. He received a master’s degree in educational leadership from Purdue University in 2010.

“At Munster, students can pursue a number of passions, they can find themselves, and they can be prepared academically for their next steps after graduation—whatever those steps are,” Snyder said.

For now, Nolan is taking the position of assistant director of operations pending the departure of director Sean Begley, who’s awaiting a new job assignment with the federal government. When Begley departs, Nolan will replace him, officials said.

Nolan began his career as a Munster High social studies teacher in 2007, then became dean of students in 2012. He served as assistant MHS principal from 2013 to 2019, when he became principal at Wilbur Wright Middle School.

He returned to MHS as principal in 2023.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wabash College and a master’s in educational administration from Ball State. He’s pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Oklahoma.
