A man was rescued by West Dundee firefighters Wednesday after his pickup truck went into a retention pond near the former Spring Hill Mall site, officials said.

The incident occurred about 2 p.m. at the intersection of Route 72 and Village Quarter Road, and is believed to have been the result of the driver having a medical episode while on the mall’s ring road, according to a West Dundee Police Department news release.

“Firefighters quickly secured the scene and safely rescued the individual from the  vehicle,” a news release from the West Dundee Fire Department said.

The driver was evaluated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital, the release said.
