Police said Darris Bonner, 20, was taken into custody on first-degree murder charges during a police action in the 2100 block of Hebron Avenue in Zion.
Arrested alongside Bonner was Jasmine Piggs, 27. Police said Piggs was wanted on an unrelated charge of attempted first-degree murder stemming from a shooting incident in Waukegan. Bonner was wanted in connection with the March 2024 shooting death of Jamaris Smith.
Zion said they developed intelligence on Monday that Bonner and Piggs were at the Hebron Avenue residence. Shortly before 5 p.m., a Northern Illinois Police Alarm Systems tactical team in conjunction with officers and detectives from Zion, the Waukegan Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office converged on the residence and took the pair into custody.
Police said they recovered numerous firearms and accessories during a search of the residence.
Additional charges may be pending, police said.
