Felony hate crime charges have been filed against a 38-year-old man who allegedly spray-painted three buildings in Little Village with swastikas and “ICE rules” graffiti earlier this month, police announced Monday.
Philip Dominguez, of Little Village, faces five felony counts of a hate crime alongside multiple charges of criminal damage to property, according to Chicago police. The Tribune reported that he was in custody Sunday after he saw still surveillance images of himself in media reports related to the graffiti and turned himself in to authorities.
Owners of the grocery store La Fruteria and the staff at two community organizations in Little Village found their buildings vandalized between July 19 and 20. Police released images and a description of the suspect late Friday. Surveillance cameras showed he had short black hair and wore a black T-shirt with four squared logos on the front, blue denim pants and black gym shoes with white soles, police said.
Dominguez was arrested just before 5 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of South Springfield Avenue in Little Village, police said.
Dominguez is due to appear in court for a detention hearing Tuesday.
