One person is dead and two people are in custody after a fatal shooting and a pursuit early Saturday in Valparaiso, police said.
Around 2:56 a.m., police responded to the 50 block of Campbell Street for a report of multiple gunshots in the area, with one person injured, according to a release on the Valparaiso Police Department’s Facebook page.
Police learned the suspects had fled the area, but they got a vehicle description and direction of travel. Officers responded to the scene and provided aid to the victim until Valparaiso Fire Department paramedics arrived.
The victim was transported to an area hospital and tragically succumbed to their injuries, police said.
As police were searching the surrounding area, a Porter County Sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle, which initiated a pursuit. The vehicle was later stopped near Ind. 249 and Interstate 94, where two individuals were taken into custody.
The investigation remains open and ongoing, police said, and additional details may be released later.
