A 66-year-old man was fatally wounded Tuesday night in a drive-by shooting on the South Side in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Around 11:20 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the first block of West 79th Street and found a man with gunshot wounds to the chest and neck. He was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Ronald K. Jones of the same neighborhood where he was fatally wounded, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A preliminary investigation revealed Jones was standing outside when a dark-colored sedan approached and someone inside pulled out a firearm and fired shots before fleeing the scene.

No one was in custody for the fatal attack and detectives were investigating.
