The village of Campton Hills is postponing a public hearing it had set for Thursday for residents to share their thoughts on the village’s possible annexation of a plot of land in what is currently rural La Fox for a 900-unit residential development, according to Campton Hills Village Administrator Mark Rooney.
Campton Hills will still be holding a village board meeting on June 26, but it will not include the public hearing portion on the development project, Rooney said on Tuesday. The current meeting agenda for Thursday also reflects the postponement.
The hearing is being tentatively rescheduled for July 15, Rooney said.
The development is the latest project proposed for the area. Previous developments have generated pushback from local open space organizations, according to past reporting. But this one — proposed by the Geneva-based Shodeen Group — has the support of local groups like the La Fox Civic Association and the Campton Township Open Space Foundation.

According to Shodeen, the process for the proposed development began with meetings with local organizations, leading to a less-dense housing plan. The development would include 900 residential units, and more than 400 acres of open space, according to past reporting. The highest density of housing would be near the La Fox train station, which sits within the 962 acres the development would sit on. Shodeen doesn’t plan for commercial development to be a part of the proposal.
In the meantime, Rooney said the village is continuing to negotiate the terms of the proposed annexation agreement with Geneva School District 304, which would service the area if it’s annexed into the village and developed.
Following the public hearing — and barring any major challenges to the project — Campton Hills’ village board can vote on whether or not to approve the agreement, according to past reporting. From there, Shodeen would seek a Planned Unit Development, or PUD, zoning designation from the village to move forward with the project.
