A woman was found dead early Saturday morning following a residential fire in unincorporated Kane County, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

After receiving a report of a structure fire, deputies responded to a home in the Lily Lake area, in the 43W500 block of Otter Lane, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

The call about the fire initially came in on Friday just before midnight, with sheriff’s office deputies responding soon thereafter, according to Kane County Undersheriff Amy Johnson.

Upon arrival, fire personnel found a woman dead inside the garage of the residence, the sheriff’s office said in the news release.

Now, the sheriff’s office says it is conducting an active investigation into the incident. The sheriff’s office’s Investigations Division responded to the scene and is working with the Elburn Fire Department, Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force and Kane County Coroner’s Office, the news release said.

But the involvement of the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force “should not be interpreted as an indication that a criminal act or arson has occurred,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“At this time, no conclusions have been reached, and no possibilities have been ruled out,” the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, the news release said. The sheriff’s office stated that additional information will be released “as it becomes available and as the investigation permits.”

An autopsy by the Kane County Coroner’s Office is scheduled for Wednesday, per the sheriff’s office.
