A 79-year-old man was pronounced dead Tuesday night after a black sedan disregarded a traffic signal on the Near West Side and the driver fled the scene, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the scene of a traffic crash in the 2400 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the United Center neighborhood. A witness told officers that a black sedan was headed south on Western Avenue when the driver disregarded a traffic signal and struck a white sedan traveling west on Jackson.
The driver of the black sedan fled the scene on foot after the crash. The driver of the white sedan, a 79-year-old man, suffered trauma to the body and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 62-year-old woman who was a passenger inside the white sedan was injured and also was taken to the same hospital.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
