The driver of a Lexus was pronounced dead, and two other people, including his passenger were injured overnight during a high speed chase in the McKinley Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Chicago police said in a statement Tuesday morning, members of the Priority Response Team were on patrol when a robbery occurred in the 5500 block of South Pulaski Road and they saw to people believed to be armed entering a black Lexus. As they attempted to investigate, the sedan fled at a high rate of speed on Ashland Avenue and collided with a KIA SUV before crashing into a building.
The passenger of the sedan was ejected and pronounced on scene. The driver sustained a leg injury and was transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition. Two weapons were recovered.
The driver of the KIA suffered an injury to a hand, and was taken to UChicago Medicine, police said.
The Major Accidents Investigation Unit and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability were investigating.
