Promotional material for “The Family Values Tribute Night,” set for Aug. 18 at the Hobart Art Theatre, bills it as “the ultimate night of nu metal nostalgia.”
Freak On A Leash, which has played House of Blues in Chicago, will salute Korn.
“Freak On A Leash has been going strong for about six years now,” singer/frontman Edward S. Roseberry Sr. said. “We automatically feel that instead of just going up there and standing there and playing our instruments, we kind of have to replicate a very energetic, live performance that kind of involves a crowd, and I feel like we do a really good job of that.
“It’s really high energy, and we don’t really let up. We kind of deliver the whole time we’re up there.”
One of five acts scheduled to perform in downtown Hobart, Freak On A Leash performs several Korn songs that particularly resonate with audiences.
“Everybody likes, obviously, ‘Freak on a Leash,’” said Roseberry, calling it “probably their most popular song.”
The track is off of Korn’s album “Follow the Leader” (1998). “They were kind of at the top of their game when ‘Follow the Leader’ came out,” Roseberry, 35, said.
In a Facebook posting, Roseberry’s band states: “We touch base with all the singles you want to hear and at the same time, we are not afraid to journey into the darker side of Korn and bring out some true fan favorites.”
Also laying out heavy-duty music at the Hobart Art Theatre will be White Pony, doing its Deftones tribute.
White Pony guitarist Danny De La Fuente said he and a bandmate were early fans of the alternative-metal group from Sacramento, Calif.
“It was a band that me and the singer, Alfredo Montero, kind of grew up listening to,” said De La Fuente, a 34-year-old Chicago resident.
Nowadays, White Pony fires up its Deftones repertoire with edgy songs like “Change (In the House of Flies),” which De La Fuente said is basically a “mandatory” part of his group’s regular performances.
“That’s pretty much their breakthrough song,” De La Fuente said. “That’s the one song that everybody knows the words to, everybody sings along to.”
Another offering “that gets the crowd going,” according to the rocker, is 1997’s “My Own Summer (Shove It).”
The thrashing tone of that Deftones cut captures a big of the part of the atmosphere which the “Family Values” will impart.
“It’s a mixture of a lot of great artists,” De La Fuente said. “They’re very good at what they do.”
Performing a Rob Zombie tribute will be Hellbilly Deluxe.
The Fred Durst Explosion, meanwhile, is set to dish Limp Bizkit music. The tribute act carries the name of the frontman for rap-metal band Limp Bizkit.
The “Family Values” show will also have Cheminem rolling out an Eminem salute.
Besides singing in Freak On A Leash, Roseberry also runs Region Live Entertainment, which is producing “The Family Values Tribute Night.”
