In 1958 two brothers-in-law sat down over donuts and coffee to hash out an idea to start a business.
That idea has since grown into a staple of the Valparaiso community. Still in its original location, Heinold & Feller opened its doors offering tires, bicycles, fans, mops and more. Automotive services, tractor sales and a parts department have grown to be the foundation of the business. Current owner, Joe Feller, assembled countless bicycles in his youth at his dad’s store. So how does a local business in an industry with plenty of competition last for 60 years? They have made it all about family. Service Manager Joe Bochnicka says that car seats are the best reminder of why exceptional service matters. He explains, “I point to the car seat and tell the guys, ‘This is why we do what we do.’ “
Every automobile that leaves Heinold & Feller is carrying a family’s loved one. That attitude is the inspiration behind their slogan “because your family matters to ours.”
Employees agree that one of the perks of longevity has been watching the families of their customers grow. Many of the children in those car seats over the years are now bringing in their own vehicles, or purchasing mowers for their first homes.
