Good morning, Chicago.
As the Chicago Bears stadium saga continues, another is brewing in Arlington Heights.
Village board members say St. Viator High School’s proposed outdoor athletic complex — two turf competition and practice fields, stadium bleachers for 1,500, an eight-lane running track, eight tennis courts, two video scoreboards, light poles, a sound system and more — is too intense for the neighborhood.
“If there were no neighbors nearby this would be a nonissue,” Mayor Jim Tinaglia said. “It is a neighborhood. And gosh I hope this design team and administration can find a way to get together with the neighbors and make it ‘win-win.’ I want you to have what you want … in some degree of moderation.”
The mayor and village trustees’ comments came late Monday during their first public review of a project years in the making — albeit an informal, early evaluation, as plans now face further revisions.

Illinois taking a cautious approach with David Mirković’s recovery — but expects big things when he returns
Illinois men’s basketball coach Brad Underwood said athletic trainer Justin Games has had his hands full over the last two months.
Games has been working with sophomore forward David Mirković as he comes back from August surgery on his left foot. The Illini want to be cautious with the recovery of a player expected to be the centerpiece of their bid to return to a second straight Final Four.

At Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum in Evanston, new exhibits are only the beginning
When visitors arrive Monday at the Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum in Evanston for Indigenous Peoples’ Day — its most visited day of the year — they will be greeted by freshly installed exhibitions on its ground and second floor.
The museum reopened Oct. 1 after being closed since late July. Its new anchor exhibition, “Indigenous Chicago,” is adapted from a recent Newberry Library exhibition of the same name, with additions specific to the Gichigamiin’s version: canoes from the museum collection, and a model of Jigzibik (Potawatomi for “at the river’s edge”), a Native American-focused affordable housing project underway in the Irving Park neighborhood.
