Friendly Foot Care in Crown Point just won the coveted Neighbor’s Choice award for “Best Podiatrist” awarded by readers of the Post-Tribune — for the ninth year in a row. The practice’s owner, podiatrist Dr. Michael Nirenberg, says he is honored to be voted number one in foot and ankle care.

“I try to do my best for patients,” Nirenberg says. “It’s nice to get this big pat on the back.”

Celebrating his 26th year of providing superb heel, foot and ankle care, Nirenberg is dedicated to putting patients first. “Our office treats every patient as we would want to be treated,” he says.

Nirenberg prides himself on solving difficult heel, foot and ankle problems. In fact, he has assisted police and even the FBI in solving murders involving foot, shoe and gait evidence.

“I use my knowledge of the foot to help people,” Nirenberg says. “Whether it is discovering why a patient has a sore foot or ankle or helping law enforcement to catch a killer.”

With one patient, Nirenberg found that the man’s foot pain was caused by a tumor in his neck. Nirenberg published the case in a medical journal.

Nirenberg also utilizes advanced technology to treat foot and ankle pain, including a hi-tech fiber optic camera, a laser and other technology.

For heel pain, he may use a tiny but powerful hi-tech camera. Through a tiny opening he makes in the heel, he slips the camera in and can quickly start to solve the problem.

“The camera makes it easy to alleviate heel pain,” Nirenberg says. “It only takes a few minutes.” He can also use the camera for painful arthritis. Nirenberg explains that these procedures are not for everyone and may not work for everyone, but he adds, “When they do work, it is great. I love to get people walking and active again.”
