Everywhere Megan Majewski looks this spring she seems to spot an offensive weapon.
What the Burlington Central junior sometimes forgets is that she’s quite a scoring threat herself.
Majewski scored 14 goals and delivered 16 assists during the regular season and now will look to help the Rockets win a regional title.
“We have so many weapons and so many combinations that even when we’re off we can find a way to win,” she said. “We’re all pumped and ready to go and show what we can do in the postseason.”
Burlington Central (19-2-2), seeded second in its Class 2A sub-sectional, is hosting a regional and will take on IMSA on Wednesday. Third-seeded Dixon could be waiting in the regional title game on Friday.
“Knowing that it’s do or die really is what motivates us,” Majewski said. “The thing about losing to Sycamore freshman year and then again sophomore year also motivates me. We know we have to work hard and we realize we have the team that can do it.”
One thing coach Jess Arneson recognized was Majewski’s ability to distribute the ball as well as score. It resulted in her changing Majewski’s role.
“After playing two seasons as a defensive midfielder for us we decided to try her up top as a target forward,” Arneson said. “Ever since then she has had more minutes up top than any other player on the team and has really given us a more effective way to attack in the middle third of the field in bigger games.”
Majewski was willing to do whatever Arneson asked as long as it helped the team win.
“At first I didn’t know Coach was going to do that,” Majewski said. “She told me I needed to be a bit more of a forward kind of player. It was kind of hard to get used to, but I don’t mind it and it really wasn’t that big of a change.”
Judging by how well she’s played, Majewski looks like a natural.
“There’s something special about those moments where you have to decide if you’re going to pass or look to finish yourself,” she said. “It’s just a cool feeling, and I appreciate my teammates also getting me the ball at times. We all help each other out and you never know who is going to have to do it. On senior night, Anna McMahon had six goals so sometimes the pass to score the goal is the biggest part of the play.”

Majewski has already committed to Bemidji State, but for now her focus is on finishing strong for the seniors and having an extended postseason run.
“I think we’re as prepared as we can be for this,” she said. “Now we’re just waiting to play.”
Waiting might be the hardest part for Majewski.
“I had an ACL injury in eighth grade and had to have surgery,” she said. “Not being able to play was one of the toughest things both mentally and physically. You don’t realize how bad it is to be taken away from the game until it happens to you.”
Now she’ll do whatever she can to try to keep it from happening until after the state championship.
