Aurora police said they found two 16-year-old boys joyriding in a stolen pickup truck early Tuesday morning.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said one of the teens was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a converted motor vehicle following a 12:15 a.m. traffic stop in the 700 block of Iowa Avenue.
According to Ferrelli, the teens were stopped for driving a vehicle with one working headlight.
During the stop, police learned that the pickup truck the boys were riding in had been reported stolen from a driveway in the 300 block of East Avenue.
The truck’s owner told police he last saw the vehicle around 9 p.m. Sunday and noticed it missing at 6:30 a.m. Monday. He had apparently left the vehicle unlocked with the keys in the center console, police said.
In addition to the felony charges against the teenage passenger, the pickup truck’s driver was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for aggravated battery to a school official, police said.
