An Aurora woman said she filled out an online loan application last week and was swindled out of more than $1,400 before she realized she had been scammed.
The incident was reported Tuesday to police by an Aurora woman who said she was emailed an online loan application from an unknown company on Friday and decided to fill it out. She was quickly contacted by a man who said he was in California and needed to be wired money to process the loan.
According to police, the woman sent a total of $1,458 to four different people from Friday until Tuesday. Each recipient had a different name, the woman reported.
After the money was sent, the woman was given three different retrieval numbers to collect her loan. She said all numbers were invalid. When she attempted to contact the man she had been speaking with, his line was busy.
Police are investigating the incident.
