A 24-year-old Oswego man has been charged with attempted child abduction for allegedly trying to lure two young girls into his car late last month, Aurora police said.

Alfonso Acacia, 300 block of Springbrook Trail, was arrested on Aug. 31, four days after he allegedly beckoned two sixth-grade girls as they walked near Best Place and Linda Court in Aurora.

According to police, the two Jefferson Middle School students were walking in the area around 8 a.m. on Aug. 27 when a man in a silver sedan, similar to a Dodge Avenger, told them to get into his car.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the girls immediately ran toward the Wal-Mart in the 2100 block of West Galena Boulevard and went into the store.

The suspect allegedly followed the girls to the Wal-Mart, but kept driving once they entered the building. The girls were not injured, Ferrelli said.

Officers were able to get a quick break in the case thanks to an important piece of evidence gathered by the girls.

The girls informed police that the suspect’s license plates contained the characters “E73.” That information was disseminated to other local departments.

On the same afternoon of the incident, a Montgomery police sergeant ran the partial plate through the department’s in-house records system and came back with a full license plate registered to a silver Dodge Avenger owned by Acacia.

Ferrelli said that Acacia’s picture also closely matched the description supplied by the two girls.

Acacia was charged and taken into custody at his home on Aug. 31. His bail was set at $10,000, which he has since posted. Acacia’s next court date is Sept. 10 at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
