A 13-year-old Aurora boy was seriously injured after he was struck by a car while playing a game of tag, Aurora police said.

Aurora Police Department Dan Ferrelli said police were called to the area of Woodlawn Avenue and Garfield Avenue around 5:26 p.m. Saturday for reports of the crash.

According to Ferrelli, a number of children were playing tag when the teenager suddenly ran into the street. He was struck by a 2001 Hyundai Sonata, which was driven by a 34-year-old Aurora woman.

Ferrelli said the boy was initially treated at an Aurora hospital for head and leg injuries, but was later transferred to another hospital for continued care. His injuries do not appear life-threatening.

The Sonata’s driver was issued a ticket for having expired plates, Ferrelli said.
