An Aurora man was charged with burglary Tuesday after he was found sleeping in the driveway of a home, police said.

Between Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, four unlocked vehicles were reported to have been burglarized while parked in the 500 and 600 blocks of North May Street.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said about $910 worth of cell phones, cash, jewelry, electronics and other items were allegedly taken from inside the vehicles.

Around 5:50 a.m., while an officer was filling out a burglary report, he noticed a man sleeping in a driveway in the 500 block of Plum Street. The officer woke the man and identified him as Adam Auriene, 25, 1000 block of East Benton Street.

Ferrelli said Auriene appeared drunk and told police that he had fallen off his bicycle and managed to lose it. Police said the bike was found lying next to one of the vehicles that had been burglarized.

In Auriene’s possession, police also allegedly located a number of items that were reported stolen during the vehicle burglaries.

Ferrelli said a fifth vehicle showed signs of being broken into, but nothing was taken.

Auriene was charged with one county of felony burglary to a motor vehicle. Additional charges could be forthcoming, Ferrelli said.
