Vandals caused about $10,000 in damage to an Aurora home this weekend by busting open several pipes, Aurora police said.
The incident occurred between noon Saturday and noon Sunday at a home under construction in the 1100 block of Stonehaven Circle.
Aurora police said a Realtor discovered the damage when she went to show the home to some clients around 1 p.m. Sunday.
When she opened the door, the woman found two holes in the drywall and some broken pipes. She said water was spraying everywhere, police said.
The woman called police to shut off the water, but by that time there was nearly four feet of water in the basement, police said.
Police said there was also damage to the home’s floor, drywall and staircase.
During a survey of the neighborhood, police located a witness who said he was in his garage around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when he heard a loud bang coming from the direction of the vacant home. He told police he believed it was the sound of the overhead garage door closing.
He said he then saw three teenagers walking away from the home. No one has been taken into custody.
Anyone with information about the damage is asked to call Aurora police investigators at 630-256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
